Since the last movement of this piece, which is perhaps the most beautiful of Hindemith’s pieces, is a chorale, a version for string instrument plus organ is the obvious work to publish. Thus, ’Trauermusik’ can now be performed in churches as well.
Versions of ’Trauermusik’ for viola or violin or violoncello with piano have been available for quite some time. Now, organists too can include this famous and moving music in their repertoire.
